French A Level at East Norfolk Sixth Form College

Course description

The course aims to develop proficiency in French, in all four language skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing. We welcome students who have enjoyed GCSE French, and provide them with a sound grammar base for further study.

You will explore a variety of aspects of French life and culture having access to French magazines and a vast collection of French language films from our extensive audio visual library. French pen-friends are arranged as are annual trips such as a joint French, Law and Politics trip to Strasbourg and a French play at the University of East Anglia.

Particular areas of study include the media and changing patterns of family life at AS and immigration and environmental issues at A2. Second year students will also study a French 20th Century novel and a play.

Course content

  • A variety of topics such as the Media and Healthy Lifestyles at AS and the Environment and Immigration at A2.
  • Through the topics you will practise the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Close study of Literature and (French novel and a play) at A2. 
     

Educational visits are also arranged such as the annual Strasbourg trip and theatre visit.

Entry requirements

B grade or above in GCSE French and at least a C grade in GCSE English Language.

Assessment

Awarding Body - AQA

A combination of oral, listening, reading and essay writing examination.
