Combined Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing NVQ Level 2 and 3 at Stafford College

Course description

Students will complete NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy and start working towards NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing within the first year of their programme.  Students will progress on to the second year to achieve Level 2 Hairdressing, Nail Technology, Nail Art and maintain Level 2 Beauty Therapy Skills.  The final year will focus on achieving Level 3 within either hairdressing or beauty therapy.  Students could then progress into a fourth year to complete the alternative NVQ Level 3 if they so wish.

 

This programme is very intense and will cover in depth practical and theoretical knowledge.  Functional Skills development is also integrated into the course which supports employment into the Hair and Beauty industry.  Students should allocate approximately 15 hours per week for home study to support this fast tracking course.

 

The facilities available at both the Beauty Academy & the Francesco Academy are of an excellent standard.

Course content

Hairdressing

The course would include client care, team working, health and safety, reception, shampooing, conditioning, blow-drying, setting and into the second year cutting, perming, colouring techniques and essential skills.

Beauty Therapy

During year one and two students will learn to perform facials, eyebrow shaping, lash and brow tinting, artificial lashes, manicures, pedicures, waxing, makeup, advanced nails and nail art. 

Year Three

During the third year NVQ Level 3 Beauty would include body massage, advanced facial and body treatments, pre-blended aromatherapy, epilation and Indian Head Massage.

OR

NVQ Level 3 Hair would include health and safety, advanced colour and colour correction, develop and enhance creative hairdressing skills, advanced cutting techniques, style and dress long hair.

Entry requirements

  • 2 GCSEs grade C or above in English, science, maths or functional skills equivalent at Level 2, or design related subject.
  • Evidence of appropriate work experience in a Hair & Beauty salon.
  • Selection will be based on personal qualities and a successful interview.

Assessment

A portfolio of evidence will be collected by students for assessment.  This will consist of written, oral and observed practical evidence.  Whilst Stafford College will attempt to encourage clients, you will need to create a client base to complete your practical assessments and a treatment pricelist is available at Stafford Beauty Academy and Francesco receptions for your information.  Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops or electronic note pads in to class to facilitate learning.

Financial information

Hair and Beauty Year 1 Starter Kit - £499.00 approx

Hair and Beauty Year 2 Kit - £295.00 approx

Hair Level 3 - £ 105.00 approx

Beauty Level 3 - £180.00 approx

This includes trips and workshops relevant to the course, students can apply to the Learner Support Fund if financial assistance is required or pay in instalments.

Students will also need to purchase a pair of low heeled black shoes.

 

Additional Costs

Please note that students aged 19 plus may be required to pay exam and registration costs. This will be payable during the Autumn Term.  You may be able to get support towards these costs from the College Learner Support Fund.

 

Students aged 24 plus will be expected to pay tuition fees.  This will be payable during the Autumn Term.  You can get support through a student loan (similar to university).
