Course description

What does the AS specification consist of and how is it assessed?Three theory units and one practical unit are undertaken in the first year. An introduction to Physical Education this includes the following theory units: Anatomy and Physiology, Acquiring Movement Skills and Socio-Cultural Studies relating to participation in physical activity. Two practical activities are also assessed and an oral piece of work is undertaken similar to the observation and analysis completed at GCSE on one of your chosen sports, this is called an EPIP. The theory work consists of a 2 hour written paper.All practical work is moderated by an external assessor at AS level.What does the A2 specification consist of and how is it assessed?In A2, all candidates study exercise and sport physiology, historical studies and sports psychology. Again three theory units are undertaken. Practically, one activity is assessed along with an evaluation of performance through observation; this is called an E & A. The theory consists of a 2 ½ hour written paper.All practical work is moderated by an external assessor at A2 level.

What might I use this qualification for?In areas such as the police, any of the armed forces, teaching/coaching, sports physiology, leisure centres, sports psychology and many more. Sport can have a long term benefit throughout life.
