Religious Studies (Philosophy & Ethics) AS Level at St Mary's Catholic High School

Course description

The study of A/S Philosophy and Ethics (2 double periods per week over 2 years) is held in great esteem by universities since it provides evidence that students possess the higher skills of critical awareness, objectivity and empathy that all of Universities demand.

The subject is particularly relevant to students hoping to study Medicine and Law as well as to those who wish to further their Religious Knowledge and understanding and gain further credits when applying to University. At medical interviews ethical questions are often asked and interviewers are impressed by students knowledge and understanding

Course content

This course involves the completion of two modules over two years. One module is taken in June of Year 12, and the second in Year 13. The course will help students develop their own beliefs, ability to understand moral issues and arguments, and in so doing increase self-confidence in responding tocurrent issues.
