Course description

Why should I study Biology?

If you love learning about how your body works then study Biology. As well as developing essential knowledge and understanding of the different areas of Biology you will also learn to appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how science contributes to the success of the economy and society. Biology is never far away from the headlines......debates about the burning of rainforest, DNA cloning, food production and advances in medicine to name a few.

What skills can I gain from studying Biology?

The skills you could gain include practical scientific skills, numeracy skills in statistical analysis of results, analytical and evaluative skills. The skills you gain in Biology can be used in a range of subject areas. An A Level in Biology will complement a range of other subject areas including Mathematics, other Sciences, Sport and many more.

Entry requirements

National data suggests this course is suitable for students who have an average GCSE point score of 46.8 or alternatively an A*-A in Science.


Future opportunities

Many students enjoy Biology so much they eventually choose a Biological related degree course. An A level in Biology can also lead to a range of alternative careers including Environmental Science, Agriculture, Teaching, Food and Nutrition, Medicine, Forestry and Pharmaceutical and Veterinary.
