Physical Education A level at The Ecclesbourne School

Course description

Do you have a wide interest in sport? By undertaking this course you will become increasingly physically competent by developing the skills and techniques required to perform effectively in physical activity.

The course at AS consists of two units. In Unit 1 you will focus on understanding how the body and its systems can help lead to an active lifestyle. You will study topics including the physiological effects of adopting a healthy lifestyle, the long term effects of training, skill acquisition and the analysis of movement across a range of sporting activities. Unit 2 is concerned with the analysis and evaluation of
physical activity as a performer, including the application of theoretical knowledge and the execution of core skills and techniques in structured practices.

At A2, you will study a further two units. Unit 3 looks at how psychological, physiological and biomechanical factors can optimise performance, and evaluates contemporary influences in sport and their impact on the performer. The final unit is concerned with optimising performance in competitive or performance condition in one role, the evaluation of own performance and suggesting the cause of own weaknesses.
