Sport and Physical Activity Development BTEC Extended Diploma - Level 3 at Dudley College

Course description

Within this course you will study 15 units in total. There are 6 mandatory units, 1 specialised unit and 8 optional units. Each of the units is designed to give students an insight into the sports industry.

The course aims to offer both theoretical and practical lessons to enhance learning within this discipline.

 

Course content

The mandatory units are:

Anatomy and physiology

  • Fitness training and programming for health, sport and well-being
  • Development and provision of sport
  • Professional development in the sports industry
  • Research methods in sport
  • Application of fitness testing and training.

The specialist unit is:

Sports psychology.

There will be an opportunity to take part in residential activity days and be part of the Team Sports Programme. There will be additional costs relating to residentials (£150+) and off-site activities.

Entry requirements

You should have one of the following qualifications:

5 GCSEs at grade C or above to include English, maths and PE is desirable.

An interest and active participation in sports and fitness is essential and you will need a positive reference from an existing college tutor/school report.

Assessment

You will be continuously assessed through a range of assessment methods such as practicals, presentations, written work, discussions, etc. Three of the units are externally assessed one of which is a written exam and the other two are task based.

There is no need to worry about the costs of coming to college as there is lots of financial help available. Our finance and welfare officers will be able to talk to you about any help that may be available to you based on your individual circumstances.

Students aged 16-18 attending a full-time further education course can apply to the 16-18 Bursary Fund for help with college related costs. Free BUS PASS

 

We will provide a free bus pass to help with travel costs for 16-18* year olds on full-time programmes, based on individual circumstances**. To qualify for a free bus pass***, you must live more than one mile from the campus at which you will be studying and not already be in receipt of other financial support, such as Care to Learn funding.

 

*Under 19 as at 31 August 2017.

 

**Students with learning difficulties or disabilities who are unable to access public transport may still be able to receive help – talk to our Student Finance team.

 

***Evidence of family income will need to be provided.
