BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma - Childcare at Abraham Darby Academy

Course description

Child Care is a course suitable for anyone that wishes to help work with children to watch them learn something new and watching the 'twinkle' in their eyes when they understand and seeing how proud they look. Also listening to them whilst they play – how their imaginations make you smile! The course will allow students to gain a qualification meaning they can go straight in to work without having to complete extra training or to gain a place at university on courses including primary teaching and early year’s courses.

Course content

The specification is suitable for students with no formal prior experience of the subject. The content is aimed for those that want to work in a practical environment with children under the age of five. Students will be assessed through their coursework, an exam and practical assessments on work experience.

Entry requirements

You will need at least five 9-5 grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics. These are guidelines only and every student’s application will be treated on an individual basis.

Future opportunities

This is a sought after qualification in Early Years and enables students to be able to work in a nursery as a qualified member of staff. The level 3 qualification enables students to work in nursery, pre-school and day care work with a group of children.

Further information

Throughout the course, students will be expected to complete 750 hours of placement over two years and attend this at least one day a week. Students will learn how to engage with children and staff alike, how to plan activities suitable for children and be able to help improve their knowledge and understanding around the world.
