Early Years Education Diploma Level 3 at New College Stamford

Course description

Gain a broad understanding of the types of provision in the childcare sector with this Level 3 Diploma. This course will prepare you for further study at university or employment working with children between 0 and 5 years of age as an Early Years Educator.You will have the opportunity to gain a real insight in to the Early Years Sector with visits to schools and nurseries. Former visits include Forest School which provides an innovative approach to childcare and education.This course is approximately 40% theory and 60% practical.

Course content

You will learn throughwide variety of learning methods including written assessment, professional discussion, presentations and group and practical activities.Compulsorywork experience will ensure you gain all the practical skills and experience you need to progress in the Early Years sector. You will be expected to complete a minimum of 750 hours worth of work experience throughout this course.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades C or above including English and maths at grades D/3 or above.


The majority of assessmentis ongoing and will be completed throughout the duration of your course.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you can progress on to University or after gaining experience, the Foundation Degree in Applied Studies (Early Childhood) at New College Stamford.You could also progress to careers in the Early Years sector as an Early Years Educator, Practitioner in Nurseries, Practitioner in Reception Classes, Pre-School Worker, Nanny or a Home Based Child Carer.

Students will need to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Certificate ‘with no grounds that a student is professionally unsuitable to undertake professional practice or placement’.
