Mathematics A level at Edgbarrow School

Course description

When applying for Mathematics A Level, students should choose between Mathematics with Mechanics or Mathematics with Statistics.

Mathematics is a key subject at A2 and AS Level.  Some students continue Mathematics for interest and enjoyment; others choose the subject to support or complement other subject disciplines.  The course provides a solid foundation in core mathematics (including algebra, functions, calculus and co-ordinate geometry) as well as giving students an opportunity to explore other areas of applied mathematics.

Mathematics is a challenging subject, requiring a willingness to work independently.  Homework is set after each lesson.  This work is an integral part of the course and gives practice in the application of theory, tests understanding, allows time for background reading, and for learning necessary facts and formulae.  Regular assessment of written work gives students valuable feedback on methods, presentation and progress.
