Course description

This BTEC Business course links well with other subjects at Level 3 and provides a pathway into a variety of higher education and degree courses. If a job is your next step, you will have acquired the skills and understanding of the operation and running of different types of businesses whilst working with local business organisations.

The course is equivalent to 1 or 2 A Levels (depending on the number of options groups chosen) and lasts for a 2 year programme of study.

The course is designed for students who want to know and understand how businesses operate. The delivery of the course is based around business and group

 

Course content

BTEC Subsidiary Diploma    
equivalent to 1 A Level

An example of the possible content:

  • Business Enterprise (running your own business)
  • Business Communication (identifying how businesses communicate effectively with customers)
  • Marketing a new product
  • Business Accounting
  • Planning for a career
  • Business Resources  (managing human, physical, technological and financial resources)

Entry requirements

Entry requirements: 5 A*-C grades or a BTEC Level 2 with at least a merit.


 

Assessment

Assessment is continuous and some of the course will be checked externally. Evidence for assessment includes portfolio work, research/written assignments, business presentations and video/observations of practical sessions. These are all graded at Pass, Merit and Distinction. All units are assessed individually and the final grade is an aggregate of the unit grades achieved in all of the units covered.
