Supporting Teaching & Learning at Schools Level 2 Apprenticeship at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

As an Apprentice you really do get the best of both worlds; you will earn a salary and gain real experience in the workplace with your employer as well as working towards a nationally recognised NVQ and other qualifications. Apprenticeships are suitable for well-motivated people who are focussed and know which career path they want to follow. They offer high quality work-based training as an alternative to full time study. This programme is aimed at people who are employed, or are seeking employment. You will need to be 16 years of age or over. Apprenticeships are available at level 2 and level 3.

Course content

• Employment should be for a minimum of 30 hours per week, with training in the workplace • Assessor visits in the workplace every 3 – 4 weeks • Functional Skills level 1 or 2 in maths, English and ICT • Employment Rights and Responsibilities 

Level 2 Apprenticeship covers:

 Mandatory units for this course include: • Child and young person development • Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people • Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults • Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people • Schools as organisations You also choose optional units. Some examples include: • Support a child with disabilities or special educational needs • Provide displays 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade A*-D including English or maths OR a Level 1 related qualification. Relevant work experience will also be considered Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed in the workplace using a range of methods including portfolio building, on the job assessment, presentations and observations

Financial information

Apprenticeship training is currently fully funded, however this is subject to change.

Further information

On completion of this course you will receive Apprenticeship Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools as well as a Functional Skills qualification.

Once you have gained employment you could start this programme at any time of the year.
