Course description

This qualification is designed as an introduction to the hair and beauty sector, providing learners with the opportunity for developing basic techniques.

It  allows them to demonstrate and recognise how hair and beauty can be considered as an expression of individuality.

Learners undertake two mandatory units and have a selection of optional units to choose from (see course content)

Course content

 The Rules of combination – There are two mandatory units, you then chose one unit from the optional units for the Entry level 3 Award.

Hair Plaiting
Plaiting and Twisting Hair.
Hair Plaiting and Plaiting and Twisting Hair cannot be taken together

Skin care

Themed Face Painting

Shampoo and Conditioning

Styling Women’s Hair

Basic Make-up Application

Salon reception duties

Follow Health & Safety in the salon

Working with others in the hair and beauty sector

Create a Hair and Beauty image

Colour hair using temporary colour

The Art of Colouring Hair

Providing Basic Pedicure Treatment

Providing basic manicure treatment


Entry requirements


There are no formal qualifications needed as students are referred through school. 



 Assessment is carried out through practical assessment, with some theory.

Financial information


There is no financial costs to the student all fees are paid by the school students are enrolled at.

Future opportunities


On completion on the Entry Level 3 Award the student will move onto the Level 1 Award in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector.
