Photography A Level at Berwick Academy

Course description

The Photography course that we study at the Academy allows you to experience a range of photo-taking and photo-making approaches, both traditional (darkroom) and digital. Although there are no requirements to have studied photography or art previously, the course will build upon skills such as picture composition that you may have, whilst developing new ones in the use of technology, personal creativity and inventiveness. The key skills involved are those highly sought after in all areas of employment: creative problem-solving ability; independent thinking; organisation; and initiative. 

Course content

At AS Level, the course is broken down into:

  • Component 1 - Peronsal Portfolio
  • Component 2 - Externally Set Assignment

For A Level:

  • Component 1 - Personal Investigation (including a written element of 1000-3000 words)
  • Component 2 - Externally Set Assignment

Entry requirements

GCSE in an Art subject at Grade C


Assessment is based on the four areas of project development, experimentation, recording and response. 

Financial information

Students will need to possess thier own camera for this course.
