Sport and P.E. A/S at Grange Technology College

Course description

This course allows students with an interest in sport and physical activity to study in great detail the body and mind in sport and sports place in society.You will also need to demonstrate your practical skills as a performer, coach or official.

If you enjoy everything about sport then this course will allow you to learn and gain a qualification while you are satisfying your personal interests.

Course content

Sociology - How sport fits into our society

60% of the course will be based on the following:

Physiology - How the body works when performing physical activity

Psychology - How the mind thinks when performing physical activity

History - How sport and physical education has developed over time

40% of the course will be assessed practically on your ability to perform in two of the following three roles:

  • Performer
  • Official
  • Coach

Entry requirements

A/S - 5 x A - C grades at GCSE level (An A-C grade in Science would be beneficial)

An A-C pass in GCSE Physical Education would also be beneficial but not essential

Assessment

Assessment is carried out through a 2 hour exam and a practical moderation.

Future opportunities

This course provides a very strong foundation for students wishing to study sport based courses at university. Examples of career path ways following university are teaching, sports development, sports marketing, physiotherapy, professional coach, leisure centre manager and many more!!!
