Level 3 Cambridge Technical Introductory Diploma in IT at The Ellen Wilkinson School for Girls

Course description

This is a modular course. You can complete 1 year and still be eligible for the Certificate. Completing two years means that you will gain the Introductory Diploma.

 Both the Certificate and Introductory diploma carry UCAS points.

Course content

Unit 1: Communication and Employability Skills for IT (mandatory unit)

This unit will prepare learners to effectively use various communication channels, within a working environment and to understand what an employer expect of an individual and how to communicate effectively whilst developing their own personal development needs.

 

Unit 2: Information Systems (mandatory unit)

This until will provide the learner with a greater understanding of how organisations use information internally and externally and the types of information they will encounter.  The skills gained by completing this unit will give the learner knowledge of the functionality of information and to produce management information systems.

 

Unit 19: Spreadsheet Modelling

The aim of this unit is to help the learner understand how spreadsheets can be used to solve complex problems.  Learners will learn how to create a complex spreadsheet model and to use a range of formulae and functions.  Learners will also learn how to automate and customise their spreadsheet models.  Finally learners will learn how to test and create user and technical documentation.

 

In the second year, students must then complete an additional three units to gain the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Introductory Diploma.

Unit 12: Website Production

This unit will prepare learners to design, create and test a fully functioning website, while also providing essential grounding knowledge on the architecture, design and security issues that need to be considered.

Unit 17: Interactive Media Authoring

This unit focuses primarily on the creation of interactive media products.  Learners will study the principles of interactive media authoring before planning and creating their own product.

Unit 27: Digital Graphics

This unit helps the learner to understand the different hardware and software that is available for working on graphic images and the file formats that exist.  Learners will understand where these file formats are used and how the delivery method of a graphic has a bearing on the file used in terms of size, resolution and compression.  Learners will be able to use the hardware and software needed to create, modify and manipulate images in accordance with clients’ requirements.

Entry requirements

Minimum of grade C in GCSE English

Assessment

Coursework only 

Future opportunities

The great thing about them is that they still give you a choice of opportunities once you’ve completed them.

The three choices open to you are:

·         Employment, where you can put your new practical skills towards generating an income

·         Further education, such as a higher-level qualification at school or college

·         Higher education, such as a degree course at university.

Access to higher education is possible if you take the Level 3 qualifications because they have UCAS points
