Cambridge Technicals Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care

Students will learn by applying their skills, knowledge and understanding to tasks or activities that are relevant to what happens in health, social care and child care workplaces. Learners will also learn how to be proactive in promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting individuals within the sector. Having an appreciation of what happens in the workplace will also help to prepare students for continuing their education in this area. 

Course content

All students will study the following mandatory units:

• Building positive relationships in health and social care

• Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care (Exam)

• Health, safety and security in health and social care (Exam)

• Anatomy and physiology for health and social care (Exam)

• Infection control

• Personalisation and a person-centred approach to care (Exam)

• Safeguarding (Exam)


These units will give students an understanding of health and social care within the wider contexts of different environments and settings where care takes place, the importance of effective communication in health and social care, the importance of legislation in health and social care and the principles behind the person-centred approach to care and how this is applied in the workplace. Students will also develop transferable skills such as communication skills as well as research, planning and organisation.


Students will take 12 units, made up of mandatory and optional units.

Five units are assessed by exams the other units are coursework.

The units are graded Pass, Merit and Distinction. The qualification is graded PP, PM, MM, MD, DD, DD*, D*D*

Future opportunities

Students studying this Health and Social Care qualification which is equivalent to 2 A Levels will be able to enter employment or higher education. For example you can use your Diploma to study the following at university:

 ● BSc (Hons) in Nursing ● BA (Hons) in Social Work ● BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy ● BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy ● BSc (Hons) in Speech Therapy ● BA (Hons) in Health and Social Care 

These vocational qualifications also provide the skills needed to enter the work place in areas such as Healthcare science or an NHS Practitioner Training Programme.
