Art and Design (Photography) - BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at John Ruskin College

Course description

This course is an exciting and creative two year course that is focused on developing your skills in contemporary photography practice for higher education or employment. You will discover a range of specialist photographic techniques along with wider art and design processes. You will develop both your technical and experimental skills in digital and traditional photography techniques to produce an exciting mix of print and digital work. Working on live briefs and for real clients, the course offers a vocational experience, working in a professional environment and will open doors to a world of possibilities in the lens based media industry. The course offers an exciting range of specialist units from the professional field of Photography combined with more experimental units from the wider area of Art and Design.

Course content

Examples of delivered units: Photographic studio techniques, lens-based image making, image manipulation using computer applications, experimental imagery in photography, ideas and concepts in art and design and many more.

Entry requirements

A minimum of English Language GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent) AND Maths GCSE at grade C or above (or equivalent) and any of the below (unless stated otherwise):


• 2 other GCSEs at grade C (or above) OR
• Merit at Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificate (or above) OR
• Merit at Level 2 VRQ Diploma OR
• Pass at Level 2 NVQ
