Hairdressing (Colouring Services Technical Certificate) Level 2 at Bexhill College

Course description

This Level 2 Technical Certificate for Hair Colouring Services aims to provide you with essential technical practical skills and knowledge, which will equip you to seek either further training or employment as a junior colourist providing colouring and other chemical services within the hairdressing industry.                                    

Course content

This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training, or to enter the world of work within the hairdressing industry. You will study the following mandatory content:

  • Principles of hairdressing and barbering services
  • Colouring and lightening hair
  • Styling and finishing services

You will work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. The different ways in which centres could support your learning, by working with both local and national hairdressing businesses, include:

  • Structured work-experience or work placements within their business
  • Your attendance at classes or lectures given by industry experts
  • Employers input into projects and exercises
  • Employers who act as ‘expert witnesses' to contribute to the assessment of your work.

Entry requirements

A range of 3/2 or D/E grades at GCSE.

Assessment

Service Portfolio: You must produce a formative portfolio that includes evidence of practical service carried out with proficiency.
Graded Practical Assessment: You must carry out a complete service on a client. The service will be graded at either Fail, Pass, Merit, or Distinction by centre assessors.
External Examinations: This will test your knowledge and understanding from across the whole vocational area.
Graded Synoptic Assessment: You will be required to undertake a graded synoptic assessment during which you will carry out a range services from across the unit.

Financial information

A Level 2 hairdressing kit and uniform will be needed for this course.

Future opportunities

Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the essential skills and knowledge of health and safety, customer service and the necessary technical skills to be employed as a junior colourist. This qualification could lead to a job as a junior colourist. This qualification could lead to a job as a junior colourist working in Hairdressing, Hotel, Cruise ship etc.
