Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management at Newton Rigg College

Course description

A step up from the level 2 diploma, the level 3 course offers the opportunity to investigate a range of more advanced horse management topics both in the classroom and practically on the Equine Yard.

Course content

This course includes work experience, animal feeding and

health, horse tack and equipment, riding and exercising horses,

principles of equitation, horse behaviour and welfare, preparing

horses for presentation, anatomy and physiology, riding horses

on the flat; rehabilitation and therapy, business management,

animal biology, riding over fences or working horses on the

ground, horse fitness, equestrian teaching and an investigative

project of your own. Your work is assessed continually

throughout the course: this could be through practical work,

theory, riding and written assignments.

Entry requirements

Normally four GCSEs at grade C or above (which should ideally include English, Maths and Science as applicable to the individual course), or an equivalent Level 2 qualification at a suitable grade.

Higher education qualifications such as

Foundation Degrees in Equine Event Management or Equine

Sports Management and, if you’re successful, then on to a ‘top

up’ BSc Hons degree.
