Course description

The Three-Unit AS

The Advanced Subsidiary GCE is both a ‘stand-alone’ qualification and also the first half of the corresponding Advanced GCE. The AS GCE is assessed at a standard appropriate for students who have completed the first year of study (both in terms of teaching time and content) of the corresponding two-year Advanced GCE course, ie between GCSE and Advanced GCE.

This consists of:

  • F221 - Molecules, Blood and Gas Exchange                
  • F222 - Growth, Development and Disease                  
  • F223 - Practical Skills in Human Biology                 

The Six-Unit Advanced GCE

The Advanced GCE is made up of the three mandatory units at AS and three further mandatory units at A2. 

This consists of:

  • F224 - Energy, Reproduction and Populations              
  • F225 - Genetics, Control and Ageing                          
  • F226 - Extended Investigation in Human Biology
