English Literature A Level at The King's School

Course description

This course will encourage students to develop their interest in and enjoyment of literature and literary studies as they:

Read widely and independently both set texts and others they may have selected for themselves.

Engage creatively with a substantial body of texts and ways of responding to them.

Explore the relationships that exist between texts and the contexts they are written in.

Course content

Love through the ages 3 texts
Shakespeare and Poetry
Love through the ages, Prose and Texts in shared Contexts, Modern Times
Independent Critical Study based on 2 texts

Entry requirements

The minimum grade entry requirement is 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above to include Grade 4 or better in English and Maths. Grade 4 in GCSE English Literature. 

Assessment

Unit 1: Exam (3hrs) (40%)
Unit2: Exam (2hrs 30m) (40%)
Unit 3: Coursework (20%)
