Accounting - AS/ A Level at Kesgrave High School

Course description

This course is ideal for those who enjoy problem solving, have an interest in business and also likes working with numerical data.

You’ll develop a knowledge and understanding of the purposes of Accounting, and then apply this to a variety of concepts, techniques and procedures.

Making reasoned judgements whilst taking into consideration Economic, Legal, Technological and Social factors, all form an important part of the course.

Course content

A range of methods will be used including the use of past exam papers and question banks to allow practice of the layouts and calculations needed to construct the financial statements of a business. 

The AS course is made up of 2 units:

1.  Introduction to Financial Accounting

2.  Financial and Management Accounting

The A2 strengthens the 2 strands of accounting by studying them in more detail:

3.  Further Aspects of Financial Accounting

4.  Further Aspects of Management Accounting



Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C or relevant subject


All units are examined, with a 1 hour 30 minutes exam per unit for AS and 2 hours for A2 units.  Using structured questions, they have equal weighting across the qualification.

Future opportunities

A Level Accounting can be useful for a wide range of careers in Finance and Management with most universities offering pure Accounting degrees as well as combined Business Management and Finance courses. 

Employers recognise the importance of financial competency.  Employment in areas such as Accounting, Financial Services, Banking, Management Consultancy and Public Sector roles are all accessible through the study of A Level Accounting.
