Media Studies AS and A2 level at Monks Walk School

Course description

Students will be introduced to the subject and learn the analytical tools for reading media texts. Media Representations and Responses will develop their understanding of the debates which arise from different media texts and examine how audiences can respond in different ways.

Course content

In the AS year, the Media Production Processes will enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of media industries through the production of practical coursework. They will produce a Pre-Production piece and a final Production, linked to the Pre-Production. This could be a storyboard or script which leads to a film trailer or advertisement. In the second year, Media Investigation and Production brings together all elements of the course culminating in an investigative research piece of coursework and a production informed by the investigation.

Students will make a detailed study of three media industries in the Text, Industry and Audience unit to understand the relationships between media texts, audiences and the industries which produce and distribute them.
