English Literature at Fakenham Academy (College)

Course description

The theme for AS is World War One literature. This provides you with an excellent overview of literature in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries as well as detailed knowledge about literature written during WW1 itself. You will study all three genres of literature - poetry, novels, plays - and read texts ranging from one hundred years ago right up to the present day. There is also a chance to do creative writing. The most challenging aspect of the course is the amount of reading you will need to do outside of lessons.

Through the theme of Love Through The Ages, the A2 course will build on your skills in literary analysis, giving you an opportunity to gain an overview of literature in the last 800 years. You will explore the sonnet form,. the rise of the novel, how plays have changed over time and much more.

Entry requirements

You need a love of reading, and an ability to write clear and controlled English. You should have achieved a Higher Paper at grade C at least in both English Literature and English Language.
