Course description

These qualifications help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to care for children. You'll cover topics like communicating with children, engaging children through activities, supporting learning and planning for the care of children's physical and emotional needs.

These introductory qualifications are for anyone thinking about starting a career in childcare. You'll likely need short-term access to work experience or a volunteer placement. You may be a young learner or an adult.

For these childcare qualifications you'll learn in a group with your training provider.

You'll be assessed on a portfolio of evidence you build during the qualification. This evidence may be collected during practical assignments or projects or it may include observations and witness testimony from a work or volunteer placement.

Future opportunities

Achieving this qualification can help you work in a wide variety of roles where childcare is involved.

After completing the Entry Level 3 Award you can move on to the Level 1 Certificate.

Once you've completed the Certificate, you could advance in your childcare career by achieving one of these qualifications:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Children's Care, Learning and Development
  • Level 1 Certificate in Health and Social Care
  • Level 2 Certificate in Playwork
  • Level 2 Award in Work with Parents
