Course description
The course covers a variety of Health and Social Care topics to give a broad introduction to health,
early years care and education, social care and issues affecting the care sector. The course will help to
develop skills, knowledge and understanding in realistic health and social care contexts, and offers work
placements in health and social care settings. The course covers a number of topics including Effective
Communication in Health and Social Care, Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care,
Caring for Children and Young People, plus many others.
Course content
In Year 12 you will study six units:
- 1 Developing Effective Communication in Health and Social Care.
- 2 Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care.
- 3 Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care.
- 6 Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care.
- 7 Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care.
- 8 Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care.
- 14 Physiological Disorders.
- 21 Nutrition for Health and Social Care.
In Year 13 you will study six units:
- 4 Development Through the Life Stages.
- 5 Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care.
- 6 Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care.
- 10 Caring for Children and Young People.
•- 38 Environmental Health.
The course is 100% coursework. Coursework is assessed internally at the end of each unit.

Entry requirements

You do not need to have any experience or qualifications in this subject, but will need a minimum of five A - C GCSE grades, or equivalent.
