Business BTEC Level 3 National Certificate at Matravers School

Course description

The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is a qualification which allows students to achieve the equivalent of one A Level at grades A* – E. The qualification allows students to progress into employment or into higher education courses relating to the business sector. The BTEC Business Subsidiary Diploma is a practical course that allows the students to gain an insight into the complexity and diversity of the business industry, giving a detailed understanding of the components of the industry.

There are no formal written exams in the course, however students will be continually assessed throughout the year. The assessments can range from written assignments, reports and role plays to group and individual presentations. Students will develop further their personal skills including increased confidence, time management, team working, communication and organisational skills. The course is divided into six units over the two years. On the successful completion of the first year of the course, students that have achieved the appropriate grades will have the opportunity to progress onto the second year of the course. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma students will back-up the knowledge from the classroom with visits to local and national businesses. The entry requirements onto the course are a minimum of 4 GCSEs grades C or above or a merit in a BTEC First Diploma qualification.

Future opportunities

There are many career opportunities within business including employment in the different business sectors including travel and tourism, marketing, the leisure industry, finance and accounting and HR. There is a wide selection of related degrees such as Business, Management, Marketing/PR or Law.
