To join an apprenticeship programme you shouls already have a job, though we may be able to help you find a suitable employment. Your employer must be prepared to give you the practical workplace training that forms part of the course, to give you time off for your college-based training at Garforth Academy.
You will study the practical skills required to complete the NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Style and finish hair Set and dress hair Cut hair using basic techniques Colour and lighten hair Advise and consult with clients Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work Plait and twist hair Cut men's hairstyles Additional Study Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) Functional Skills in Maths and English Level 2 Maths and English (and sometimes IT) are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels. Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C.
5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above or Pass at Key Stage 4 Habits course. Student may be required to find employer willing to support.

Assessment will be continuous through oral and written tests, assignments and practical work. Practical assessment will take place on real clients at HABITS, and an assessor will visit you in the salon to carry out practical assessment and monitor your progress. Students will be required to bring in their own models for assessment. The Functional Skills are assessed through online tests. Certification will be accredited on completion of your portfolio of evidence and achievement of Functional Skills.
After achieving you will find that you have improved your full-time employment prospects and will be in an ideal situation to progress to such positions as a Hairstylist or move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship programme or our Level 3 Pre-employment qualification
