AS/A2 Product Design at Sandringham School

Course description

Course Aims:

Through your work on this course, you will learn to: Research, Communicate ideas and information, Evaluate ideas, Design, Plan and Manufacture useful products using a range of materials and state of the art equipment including CAD/CAM.

Course Structure:

  • AS – Unit 1 Portfolio of Creative Skills (Coursework) 60%, Unit 2 Design and Technology in Practice (Exam) 40%
  • A2 – Unit 3 Designing for the Future (Exam)40%, Unit 4 Commercial Design (Coursework) 60%

 

Entry requirements

Students who have gained a grade B or higher at GCSE in any of the Technology subjects are welcome along with those who have an aptitude or flair for designing and making and have gained an average B grade at GCSE.

As 60% of the course is made up of coursework, students who are able to manage their time effectively and have the ability to meet deadlines are much more likely to gain higher marks. The transferable skills developed in Product Design are useful on any university course and are highly valued by employers.
