Economics AS/A2 at Stanborough School

Course description

For AS Level you will take 2 modules. These will include work on the Market System which studies supply and demand together with how firms and consumers react in a Market. Market Failure looks at where and why the Market System does not come up with the best solutions due to problems such as pollution, and the policies governments can use to reduce these problems.
In National and International Economy you will learn about the economy as a whole. This includes looking at interest rates, growth rates, inflation, unemployment and international trade.
Work at A2 will cover Global Economics and how less developed countries can organise themselves to become developed and what countries like the UK can do to help. Transport Economics will look at the state of our railways, road tolling and pricing and the issue of airport congestion. Assessment is all by examinations, which will require you to both analyse data and write medium to long length essays. We normally advise against taking both Economics and Business Studies AS levels due to the overlap between courses. Careers in the City, Business, Civil Service and the Media are all enhanced by Economics. Economics is a good subject to take In conjunction with others such as History, Maths, Politics, Geography and Sociology.
