BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care at St Thomas More School & Sixth Form College

Course description

The course title is Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care. It prepares learners for direct employment in the care sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they clearly wish to pursue a care related career. It is equivalent to one GCE A Level at the end of the two year course.

 

Course content

The programme consists of a number of mandatory units amounting to a total of 60 credits. Those units are:

Effective Communication; Equality, Diversity and Rights; Health, Safety and Security; Life Stages; Anatomy and Physiology; Personal and Professional Development; Sociological Perspectives; Psychological Perspectives.

You will also complete a range of optional units in discussion with the course tutor.

Entry requirements

You will require 4 GCSE grades at A-C or equivalent. An enhanced CRB check will be required at a cost to the student.

Assessment

Each unit will be assessed through course work and your progress during work

placement.

Financial information

You will need to wear the College Polo shirt whilst you are at work placement. You can purchase this at enrolment.    There is no charge for course materials.  There will be costs involved with travel to placements however.  An enhanced CRB check will be required at a cost to the student.

Future opportunities

Direct employment in care work or studying at Higher Education to do Degrees in Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Youth work.
