Music A-Level at Churchill Academy and Sixth Form

Course description

Students experience all three main musical disciplines of performing, composing and listening and understanding. The course therefore builds upon the skills developed in GCSE Music. Listening and analysis work is based around set works in all musical styles including Film Music, Pop and Jazz from the past 50 years alongside classical works.

Course content

  • Performance - 30% course marks
  • Taken in the form of a recital/performance lasting for at least 8 minutes
  • Composition - 30% course marks
  • Two other a free composition
  • Listening and Analysis - 40% course marks (exam)

Entry requirements

5 A* - C at GCSE

B grade in GCSE Music

As a guide you will need to be performing at the equivalent of Grade 6 through Year 12 and Grade 7 through Year 13

Future opportunities

This course can lead to further study in Music at undergraduate level in performance, composition or analysis. It can further lead to a job as Music therapist, Musician, Private music teacher, Secondary/Primary school teacher, Sound technician, broadcasting/ film/video, Arts administrator Broadcast engineer, Community arts worker, Event organiser, Radio broadcast assistant, Radio producer or Theatre stage manager.
