English Language at Joseph Swan Academy

Course description

Studying English language can involve exploring almost any use of words. You will have the opportunity to study the ways English language is used in a variety of forms and contexts. For example, you may study the use and functions of language within the classroom context or in political speeches. Alternatively, you can investigate children’s language acquisition or the way our minds process metaphors.

There are four units in A-level English Language. You will study how to categorise, create, develop and investigate language from the past to the present day.

A mix of coursework and exams help to develop your skills as producers and interpreters of language.
