Level 2 Project at Matravers School

Course description

The Level 2 Project is a stand-alone qualification which provides students with the opportunity to select their own topic for study in order to complete the project outcome of their choice. As such, the project significantly enriches the Level 2 suite of qualifications that we offer to Post-16 students at Matravers. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for students to work independently in order to develop high quality and innovative outcomes in response to a self-created project brief or question. The Level 2 Project can focus on any area of study and can be completed in any medium but must be tailored to fit the skills and interests of the student. There is a taught element to the Level 2 Project and this helps to ensure that students have the necessary skills to undertake the project as well as the necessary subject knowledge. In addition, students are expected to seek subject specific input and other training in order to develop their own skills beyond the expertise of the delivering practitioner. The final project can take the form of an essay, presentation, design, performance, report or artefact but in all cases must be backed up with a project progression record and appropriate written component. At Matravers we fully encourage students to pursue their own interests when selecting the area of study for their project which allows for the outcomes to be rich and varied.

Course content

This is a very exciting opportunity for all students. The Level 2 Project provides an opportunity for students to develop their academic study skills as well as refining their work ethic, both of which will be highly valuable within Further Education. Students will find the Level 2 Project challenging but they will also benefit hugely from the experience through the exploration of their own interests. The Level 2 Project will be presented as a final portfolio of work including both the project outcome and the evidence related to the process of project management. The portfolio is marked against four strands of assessment (see below). The Level 2 Project is marked internally prior to moderation by the exam board.
