Mathematics Level 3 GCE As/A2—Edexcel at Oak Academy

Course description

The Mathematics Department prides itself on its innovative teaching methods, from building marshmallow and spaghetti towers to investigations on the finding the perfect speed for driving over speed bumps.
We understand the importance of Maths as an academic subject and also its value in the real world at all levels. Lessons incorporate group, paired and independent learning opportunities.
At A-Level we expect our students to be proactive with their learning and we offer many opportunities for them to improve their learning skills and therefore succeed in the subject.
We are very proud of the achievements of our students at A-Level, who regularly pass this subject at a high level.
AS Course
Core 1 and 2 covers topics such as Algebra, Coordinate Geometry and Trigonometry.
Statistics covers topics such as analysing data, probability and distributions.
A2 Course
Core 3 and 4 are extensions of the modules introduced in AS mathematics.
Mechanics 1 covers the mathematics of forces and motion.
Students are expected to engage in discussions, group work, note taking and independent learning. The course involves hard work but is very rewarding.
With either an AS or A2 Mathematics qualification students are well placed to enter the world of work or to go on to Higher Education.
Careers that use maths include: Animation, Accountancy, Air traffic control, Computing, Special Effects, and Forensics.

Entry requirements

Entry Requirements:
5 A*-C GCSE including Maths GCSE Grade B.
