Course description

If you are fascinated by the idea of understanding the brain, if you want to grasp the complexities of human behaviour then Psychology A Level is for you. 

Course content

Approaches in Psychology

In this area we look at the five main approaches in psychology: Behaviourist, Psychodynamic, Cognitive, Humanistic and Biological. The approaches are different fields of psychology, each with its own explanations of human behaviour.

Introductory Topics in Psychology

This unit allows us to explore the idea of social influence, memory and attachment. We look at many different studies and experiments associated with these areas in Psychology.


In this unit we will explore abnormal behaviour and depression. We will look atthe definitions od depression, OCD and how phobias can form.

Research Methods

This module develops the knowledge of research methods from Year 12, and also looks at ethical issues raised by psychological research.


This module shows us the division of the nervous system and the ways in which we study the brain. We assess whether different areas of the brain are responsible for different behaviours or whether the brain works as a whole.

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 including English at grade 6 and Science at a grade 6
