Drama and Theatre Studies at Hazel Grove High School

Course description

The study of Drama and Theatre Studies will focus on exploring plays, creating theatre, performing plays, analysis of theatre and critical evaluation of all these elements. You will cover a broad range of Drama and Theatre skills and concepts as well as engaging with practitioner theory and live theatre performances.

The aims of the course are to encourage students to:
* Develop their interest and enjoyment in Drama and Theatre, both as participants and informed members of an audience.
* Develop understanding and appreciation of the significance of social, cultural and historical influences on the development of Drama and Theatre.
* Develop a variety of Dramatic and Theatrical skills, enabling pupils to imaginatively explore scripted and devised work.
* Integrate theory and practise through their understanding of critical concepts and use of specialist terminology.

Entry requirements

In the main, entry depends on the attitudes and aspirations of the prospective Sixth Formers. All students should be able to demonstrate willingness to progress and a desire to do well. You must show a commitment to making the best use of opportunities available and an ability to succeed with the course you choose. In general, if you wish to study an Advanced Level course you will need a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above including Maths and English. A minimum of a B GCSE grade must be achieved in a subject if you want to study it for A level. Many subjects can be studied at A Level with a B grade in a similar subject, if the student has not studied that subject at GCSE. See individual subject details.
