Science Applied - Forensics at Blackfen School for Girls

Course description

This course is designed for students who are interested in employment within Science organisations or careers/further education in practical scientific work. It is a more vocational qualification and consists of assessment through portfolio-based assessment (coursework) covering a variety of scientific investigations.

Course content

Students will study six units over 2 years, the compulsory units are:

Fundamentals of science

Working in the science industry

Scientific practical techniques.

Students will also complete a further 3 optional units.  Unit 5: Perceptions of Science; Unit 20: Medical Physics Techniques;  Unit 32 Forensic Evidence Collection and Analysis

 

 

Entry requirements

Merit in level 2 BTEC Science or C in GCSE core Science.

Assessment

There are no final exams.  Coursework is assessed internally and externally moderated by the exam board  Students are awarded grades D*, D, M or P.

 

Future opportunities

The course offers students excellent bases for employment in the Science industry as a technician or it can be used in a career in the police force or the fire service. This is also an ideal course for students who may wish to study Medical Genetics, Biology, Paramedic Training, Forensic Science, Dental Technology, Criminology or Biochemistry.
