Biology at All Saints School

Course description

The course offers all the benefits of a modular approach, (re-sits, bite-sized learning, short exams etc) and is designed to follow on from the Core and Additional Science courses taught at All Saints’ in Year 10 & 11.

Each module is tested in a short exam, mainly structured questions. Although there is no course work, there are two controlled assessments. Ecology techniques are taught in the summer term of Year 12 on a residential field course based at Malton.

To gain A/S Level students take 2 modules in Year 12:

* Biology & Disease
* The Variety of Living Organisms

To gain A2 Level students take a further module in Year 13:

* Populations and Environment
* Control in Cells and Organisms

The study of Biology at ‘A’ Level and beyond does not require another Science subject and Universities and Employers look with favour on Arts or Humanities based students who also have a Science qualification.
