Production Arts - BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at RR6 Wimbledon

Course description

Why study the Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary & Extended Diploma in Production Arts? This course will give you insight into the industry’s varied employment opportunities. It is designed to be adapted to your interests, abilities and aspirations. What topics will I study? All students will study five core units There are five compulsory core units plus your choice of specialist units, such as lighting, sound music technology, set design and construction, crewing etc. In addition to this students will study twelve further specialist units selected from a wide range of production disciplines including performing arts business. How will I be assessed? All completed units are internally assessed at RR6 and graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. A variety of other assessment methods are also used including case studies, assignments, workbased assessments, projects, performances and some time-constrained assessments. Each grade (Pass, Merit or Distinction) builds to a final point score profile which is the equivalent of three full A Levels, from grades A-E.

Entry requirements

GCSE Drama and/or Technology / Art and Design at grade B or higher OR BTEC First Performing Arts at Merits or higher. Students should also have practical experience of working back-stage on live performances and any students with extensive technical experience who do not have the relevant GCSEs / BTECs may be considered.

Future opportunities

There are a wide variety of careers that can be explored including set designer, stage manager, lighting operator, sound engineer or manager/agent,. BTEC National Diplomas in Production Arts hold equal weighting with A Levels for UCAS points for university applications.
