Spanish A Level at Corfe Hills School

Course description

You will cover current affairs and will regularly watch and read the news. Topics covered in Year 13 include War, Terrorism, Immigration, Poverty, Wealth, Religion, Traditions, Beliefs, Human Rights, Politics, Crime, Punishment as well as the Year 12 topics in greater detail.

Unit 3: (6SP03A) Speaking
You will prepare a minute stance on an issue of your choice and then be ready to debate it with the teacher for four minutes. You will then have a conversation on a variety of issues that have been studied over the year for the remaining eight minutes.

Unit 4: (6SP04) Writing and Translation
In this unit students will complete a short translation then two essays of 240-270 words. The first is a discursive essay on a contentious issue (choice of five titles) and the second is a research based essay on a film or topic that has been researched over the year (no choice of title).

Course content

You will get to know in depth, social, cultural and political aspects of the Spanish speaking world through exposure to current articles, newspaper articles, Spanish World News and through sharing of ideas and knowledge.

Assessment

Unit 3:  Speaking (35% of A2).  This unit is assessed is in the Summer Term of A2, in May by a thirteen minute speaking exam involving debate and conversation.

Unit 4: Writing and Translation (65% of A2).  This is examined in June with a 2 hour 30 minute writing exam and will involve translation and a discursive essay( 270 words) plus a research based essay (270 words).
