Accounting (AAT) Certificate Level 2 with Business Subsidiary Diploma Level 3 at Boston College

This 2 year course offers a combination of accounting and business studies and is your route to an exciting professional career in the business world. The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) accounting qualification is an industry standard qualification, which combined with a nationally recognised business studies qualification; your career options are endless. Course content

This newly development 2 year course for September 2017 combines the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Intermediate and Advanced Accounting Diploma Level 2 and 3 and then Business BTEC Diploma Level 3. 

In Year 1 you will study the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Level 2 alongside the Extended Certificate in Business at Level 3. Units of study include computerised accounts (SAGE), processing bookkeeping transactions and basic costing and you will also focus on business elements such as marketing, economics and the business environment. 

In Year 2 you will progress to the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3 along with the Diploma in Business at Level 3. You will study Accounts Preparation, Costs and Revenues and Indirect Tax and focus on business themes such as market research and business ethics. 

The course is delivered using a balance between practical and theory, which includes e-learning, one-to-one support, individual learning plans, external visits, events and speakers.   

You will also undertake a short period of work experience in year 1 which will be extremely useful in preparing you for your next steps in either employment or education.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades C or above (New GCSE grade 4 or above) including English Language, Maths and related academic or vocational subjects such as History, Business Studies or Economics (or equivalent). 

OR Merit or Distinction at First Diploma Level in a related subject together with Functional Skills Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent) (Learners undertaking the new Generation NQF BTEC Level 2 Diploma may be accepted with a P M profile; each case will be assessed on an individual basis). 

It is expected that learners will have completed Year 1 successfully before progressing to Year 2. Individual cases will be considered.


The AAT qualifications are assessed by computer based examinations taken at appropriate points throughout the year according to the delivery schedule. 

The Business Diploma is assessed through internally assessed assignment work, which may include presentations and group work, and externally assessed exams and pre-set tasks.

Future opportunities

This course offers a great opportunity for those wishing to start a career in accounting and/or business. BTEC Diplomas are highly valued by employers and AAT qualifications are nationally recognised accounting qualifications that meet industry standards. Therefore, students who complete this course have many different progression routes available such as opportunities to progress onto an Advanced or Higher Level Apprenticeship in Accounting or Business or onto university level study as both Level 3 elements attract UCAS points.
