Art: Critical & Contextual Studies at Newmarket Academy

Course description

This subject allows you to gain an awareness of the social, cultural and economic meanings contained within your own art and design work, and that of the whole history of art. During the course you will be expected to study works first hand by visiting museums and galleries.

Areas of study will be selected from the

  • Human form,
  • Landscape and natural forms,
  • Still life and designed objects,
  • The built environment,
  • Machine age and abstract art
  • Contemporary media in art.

You will learn skills in visual, technical and critical analysis, and go on to produce both theoretical and practical outcomes.
