BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science (2 A level equivalent) at Huddersfield New College
There are a number of ways to study our BTEC Level 3 programme in Sport and Exercise Science. Your choice will depend on your study options and future career ambitions. BTEC Level 3 in Sport and Exercise Science supports a huge range of careers.
The number of units you study increases in line with the value of A Level equivalents, as the greater this, the higher the proportion of sport in your overall study programme.
You may notice that a number of units are the same as our qualification in Sports Development and Coaching. We are often asked about the difference between the two; the BTEC Level 3 in Sport and Exercise Science is better suited to those interested in the science of Sport, including nutrition and athletic performance. Core topics include:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Biomechanics in sport
- Sports injuries
- Field and laboratory-based fitness testing
- Sport nutrition
- Applied research methods in sport and exercise science
Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma allows you to study all of the topics detailed above, and deepen your Sport and Exercise Science knowledge. Studying this two A Level equivalent will deepen your knowledge of areas such as fitness, nutrition and the science behind elite athlete performance. Some students combine this with subjects such as Biology to support progression on to degrees in areas such as Physiotherapy.

Grade 4 in GCSE Maths and one grade 4 within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades or a pass in a vocational level 2 Science qualification. Grade 4 in GCSE PE or a pass in a vocational equivalent, if taken.

This is a qualification recognised by a wide range of universities and students often progress to degrees in the sports science field, such as Physiotherapist or Nutritionist.
