Applied Science BTEC Level 3 Diploma 90 at Bromley College of Further & Higher Education
BTEC National Diplomas are QCF Level 3 qualifications designed to provide highly specialist work-related qualifications in a range of vocational sectors.
They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for entry to higher education or employment. The qualifications also provides career development opportunities for those already in work.
Nine units (90 credits) are studied within each year.
The full 180-credit BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science is studied over 2 years.
The second year extends and deepens the specialist work-related focus from the first year of study. Students also have the option to take accreditation for the units studied within the first year, receive a Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Science, then move on to employment or further education.
The full 180 credit Diploma is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Levels. However it differs from ‘A’ levels in both delivery and assessment methods.

You must be at least 16 years old to participate in this course.
You must have four GCSEs (including Core Science, Additional Science, Mathematics and English) with grades of C or higher, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science at Merit or above.
A computer marked assessment of numeracy and literacy will be completed prior to the first week of the course and the results are used to ensure you are enrolled onto a course to suit your abilities.
This course is assessed by a variety of methods such as; projects, practical work, internally assessed assignments, research and coursework. During the course students will build up a portfolio of evidence of their achievements in the various coursework activities. There are no formal examinations however short unit tests may be used to assess understanding and achievement.
The course will be delivered using a mixture of theory and practical work and assessed through set assignments. Practical work will be assessed by tutor observation and by written assessment.
In addition, students are required to provide their own laboratory coat, scientific calculator and stationery. Lab coats and other essential items are available to purchase from the college. We do not provide textbooks or recommend particular reading lists.
The majority of our learners go on to study Sciences at degree level.
The College has links with the University of Greenwich, and successful students have the option to continue full time on either a BSc or Foundation Degree in an Applied Science (e.g. Biomedical Science, Pharmaceutical Science or Forensic Science).
Alternatively, the course will prepare you for work within a wide range of science-based careers.
