Physical Education is a rapidly expanding area throughout the UK and the A-Level is a fascinating and challenging subject where you will work in a supportive atmosphere. This is a course designed for students who have a genuine interest in sporting activities. The course aims to provide a knowledge of principles underlying sport and physical education through classroom study and practical work, backed up by lots of enrichment activities in sports.

Course content

There's a wide range of sporting enrichment activities that include extra-curricular competitive sport and recreational lunchtime activities such as inter-college 5 a-side football, basketball, rugby and netball.

Entry requirements

Generally, a minimum of 2 GCSEs grade B and 3 grade C, including English and Maths, but applicants will be considered on a case by case basis., , You will also need a grade B in a single GCSE Science (preferably Biology) or a grade BB in GCSE Core and Additional Science.


The theoretical aspects of the course are taught using a variety of teaching methods that will engage all learners.

Future opportunities

You can progress to university to study a variety of courses, including sport science, sport studies, leisure management, teaching, sports therapy, physiotherapy plus many more. For those wishing to study physiotherapy, subject choice should be considered carefully and further advice sought. Other areas include police and fire services, armed forces, and sports industry and development.
