Business Studies A Level at St Helens College

Course description

Whether you have a passion for entrepreneurialism or an interest in leadership and management, this A level in Business Studies can be applied to a broad range of career opportunities.

Business Studies provides a clear introduction to the way businesses operate through the study of business objectives, corporate strategy, external influences, accounting and finance.

You'll then go on to study human resources, management, operations management and even marketing.

 

Course content

During this A level, you will cover the following:

  • Issues involved with creating a business start-up, such as research, planning, and the factors that determine success.
  • How established businesses might improve their effectiveness.
  • Larger businesses which may be trading in international markets, and how managers might measure the performance of the business.
  • How businesses manage change successfully.

Entry requirements

You should have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and maths.

Assessment

You will be assessed by examinations at the end of this two year A level.

Financial information

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation.

Future opportunities

You may choose to continue your studies at degree level with other universities or University Centre St Helens, which offers a HND in Business.

You might even decide to look for a higher apprenticeship, enabling you to earn some money whilst continuing your studies.

Further information

You will be expected to be aware of current affairs which have an effect on business. This will enable you to put what you are learning into context.
