Edexcel BTEC L3 Subsidiary Diploma/Diploma/Extended Diploma in Sport Studies (Coaching Development & Fitness) at Cambridge United FC

Course description

This two year programme is designed to prepare you for a career in the sports industry. The course is an eighteen unit BTEC Extended Diploma (units are subject to change), which includes:

Module 1

  • The Physiology of Fitness
  • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport
  • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise
  • Current Issues in Sport
  • Assessing Risk in sport
  • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle
  • Practical Team Sports

Module 2

  • Sport Injuries
  • Fitness Training and Programming
  • Psychology for Sports Performance
  • Sports Development
  • Sports Coaching
  • Practical Team Sports

All students will have the opportunity to choose one out of the following pathways in their second year:

  • Science Pathway
  • Coaching Pathway
  • Fitness Pathway

Compulsory residential activities to develop team work and practical skills are an integral part of the course. There is an additional cost of £250 to cover these trips as well as covering the costs of day trips, sports kits, travel costs associated with team games or residentials, and guest speakers. This charge is to be paid at enrolment and is non-refundable. The Learner Support Fund is available and could help assist in paying towards these fees.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including English Language and Maths  or their equivalents at grade C or above), or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma/GNVQ Intermediate at Merit or Distinction and GCSE English Language and Maths (or their equivalents) at grade C or above. You will have an active interest in sport and will be anticipating a career related to sports. The offer on the course is subject to the successful attendance of a Welcome Event and Taster Day.In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.
