Dance at Dyson Perrins CofE Academy

Course description

Dance in the Sixth Form gives students the opportunity to explore and develop their creativity and technical skills through choreography and performance. Students study professional dance works and increase knowledge and understanding in cultural, historical and social dance repertoires. Within the context of the course there will be the opportunity to see live performances displaying a range of genres as well as performance opportunities!

AS Units
Unit 1 - Understanding Dance Assessment Method: 90 minute exam
Weighting: 40% AS (1st Year) 20% A2 (Overall grade)

Unit 2 - Choreography and Performance
Assessment Method: Practical Coursework Internally
Assessed Weighting: 60% AS (1st Year) 30% A2 (Overall Grade)

A2 Units Unit 3 - Dance Appreciation
Assessment Method: 90 minute exam
Weighting: 25% A2 (Overall grade)Unit 4 - Group Choreography and Solo Performance
Assessment Method: Group Choreography and Solo performance
Weighting: 25% A2 (Overall grade)

Entry requirements

Students need to have an interest in the vast and varied world of Dance. A background in Dance is desirable but not essential; however this course does require students to paryicipate in both practical and theoretical lessons.
